list of bluegrass music that reminds me of home…
I’m not particularly a bluegrass aficionado or anything. It just reminds me of home. I guess it’s that whole ’sense-of-place’ thing. I asked my dad – the cabbie – what names I should remember… And, since he has always listened to a lot of bluegrass music, here is the list he gave me (in no particular order):
Ricky Skaggs – Bluegrass Rules
Jimmy Martins 20 Greatest Hits
Larry Sparks – The Rock I Stand On
Blue Highway – Wind to the West
Stanley Brothers – I saw the Light
Larry Sparks – Blue Mountain Memories
Ralph Stanley and Friends – Clinch Mountain Sweethearts
Del McCoury – A Deeper Shade of Blue
Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver – There’s a Light Guiding Me
Guy Clark – Cold Dog Soup
Allison Krauss and The Cox Family – I know who holds tomorrow
Gillian Welch
The Three Pickers – Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, and Ricky Skaggs
Jerry Douglas – Restless on the Farms
Bobby Hicks – Fiddle Patch
Doc and Merle Watson – Sittin’ Pickin the Blues
I’m posting it here so as not to forget. One day, maybe someday soon, I’ll have a chance to reminisce.
